Rum Reef is an independent business operated in the United States by Jason Guarino in Oldsmar, Florida.

In this Privacy Policy, “Rum Reef,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Rum Reef and Jason Guarino as its operator.

Scope of This Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to RumReef.co and to all Shopify apps, digital products, services, and online tools provided by Rum Reef unless a separate privacy notice is provided for a specific product or service.

Some apps, products, or services may have their own privacy statements or documentation based on their features, permissions, intended use, or technical requirements. We encourage users to review any product-specific privacy information that is made available.

A product-specific privacy notice supplements this Privacy Policy. If there is a conflict regarding how a particular product processes information, the product-specific notice will apply to that product.

Our Role Under Privacy Laws

Depending on how you interact with Rum Reef, we may process personal information in different roles.

When we determine why and how personal information is used, such as for website purchases, marketing subscriptions, support, website analytics, advertising, security, or app account administration, Rum Reef acts as the controller or business responsible for that information.

When a Shopify app processes store data solely to provide services at the direction of a merchant, the merchant generally determines why that data is processed, and Rum Reef processes it on the merchant’s behalf.

Shopify and certain other service providers may separately process information for their own purposes under their own privacy policies.

Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you interact with our website, apps, products, and services.

Information You Provide Directly

We may collect information you provide, including:

• Billing or business contact information

Unless a product-specific notice states otherwise, our apps are not designed to access Shopify customer records, customer addresses, customer order history, or customer payment information.

Product catalog information may contain personal information if a merchant places names, photographs, contact information, or other personal information within product content. Rum Reef processes that content only as needed to provide the app’s functionality.

App Usage, Diagnostic, and Log Information

When you use one of our apps, we may automatically collect technical and usage information, including:

• Browser type and version
• Device type
• Operating system
• Shopify store domain
• App pages or screens viewed
• Buttons or features used
• Dates and timestamps
• Session or technical identifiers

We do not use merchant app data to enroll app users in marketing communications.

We use advertising pixels and related tools through Shopify-supported applications and privacy controls rather than intentionally placing those pixels directly into our website theme code.

Shopify Network Intelligence

Shopify Network Intelligence is enabled on RumReef.co.

When this feature is enabled, Shopify may use information generated through interactions with Shopify-powered stores to provide enhanced services, improve its platform, prevent fraud, measure activity, and personalize experiences as described in Shopify’s own privacy materials.

Data Sharing Opt-Out

Rum Reef does not sell or rent personal information for money.

However, our use of advertising and analytics technologies may be considered the “sale,” “sharing,” or use of personal information for targeted advertising under certain US state privacy laws, even when no money is exchanged for the information.

Where applicable, you can opt out through our Data Sharing Opt-Out Page.

We also process recognized browser-based privacy signals, such as Global Privacy Control, where required by law and supported by Shopify’s privacy tools.

Your cookie and opt-out selections may apply only to the browser and device where the choice was made. You may need to repeat the selection on other browsers or devices.

Marketing Communications

We send marketing emails only to individuals who choose to subscribe or otherwise provide legally valid permission.

Installing or using a Rum Reef app does not automatically subscribe you to marketing communications.

You can unsubscribe from marketing by using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email or by contacting us.

Unsubscribing from marketing does not:

• Delete your customer or app account
• Cancel an app subscription
• Delete purchase or transaction records
• Delete support communications
• Prevent essential service messages

We may retain limited information necessary to document and honor an unsubscribe request.

App and Service Notifications

Our apps may send operational notifications about:

• App activity
• File generation or delivery
• Backup status
• Errors or failed processes
• Billing issues
• Security issues
• Account status
• Required user actions
• Changes affecting the operation of an app
• Legal or policy updates

Optional notifications may be disabled where the app provides that option.

Some communications are necessary to operate an app, protect an account, address a billing or security problem, or notify a merchant of an issue requiring attention. These essential communications may continue while the app is installed or an account or unresolved transaction remains active.

How We Disclose Information

Shopify independently processes certain information under its own privacy policies and contractual terms.

Render

We use Render for app hosting, application programming interfaces, databases, file storage, app analytics, performance monitoring, and error reporting.

Resend

We use Resend to deliver transactional, operational, and notification emails from our apps and services.

Google and Meta

We may use Google and Meta for website analytics, advertising, advertising measurement, campaign reporting, and related services.

Professional and Legal Services

We may disclose information to accountants, attorneys, consultants, insurers, financial institutions, or other professional advisers when reasonably necessary.

Legal and Safety Disclosures

We may disclose information when we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to:

Business Changes

We do not permit service providers to use personal information for unrelated purposes merely because they process it for us. Some providers, including Shopify, Google, and Meta, may independently determine certain purposes for their own processing under their respective policies.

Shopify App Billing and Records

Shopify controls billing for apps distributed through the Shopify App Store.

Rum Reef may receive information such as:

• The merchant’s store identity
• Subscription or plan information
• Charge status
• Billing approval status
• Usage quantities needed to calculate an app charge
• Cancellation or subscription status

Rum Reef does not directly collect or store the merchant’s complete payment-card information for Shopify App Store billing.

Shopify may independently retain information concerning:

• Shopify accounts
• App installations
• App usage or billing events
• Charges
• Transactions
• Merchant relationships
• Store activity

Shopify’s retention of those records is governed by Shopify’s policies and systems. Rum Reef does not control when Shopify deletes its own records.

Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including providing services, maintaining security, complying with legal obligations, preventing fraud, resolving disputes, maintaining records, and enforcing agreements.

Our general retention practices include:

• App usage, diagnostic, analytics, performance, and error log data is generally retained for no more than 30 days.
• Files generated and stored by our apps are generally retained for no more than seven days unless a different period is disclosed for a specific product.
• Files delivered as email attachments remain in the recipient’s email account and may also be retained by the recipient’s email provider. Rum Reef does not control copies retained by the recipient or their email provider.
• Identifiable app account, authorization, session, and store data controlled by Rum Reef is deleted or disconnected promptly after an app is uninstalled, unless continued retention is reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, an unresolved dispute, or another documented business purpose.
• De-identified or aggregated app usage statistics may be retained after uninstall when they are no longer reasonably connected to a merchant, store, or individual.
• Information deleted from active systems may temporarily remain in encrypted backups or recovery systems until those backups expire or are overwritten through normal backup rotation. Certain Render database recovery systems may retain recoverable data for up to seven days.
• Marketing subscription information is retained while the subscription remains active.
• When a person unsubscribes, we may retain limited suppression information needed to document and honor the opt-out.
• Unsubscribing from marketing does not delete information connected to an active customer relationship, app account, purchase, support request, transaction, legal obligation, or security record.
• Support communications, transaction records, purchase records, tax records, and related business information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary for customer service, accounting, tax, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, and recordkeeping.
• Shopify may retain app billing, installation, account, and transaction records independently under its own retention practices.

We may delete, aggregate, or anonymize information when it is no longer reasonably necessary.

International Data Transfers

Rum Reef operates in the United States.

Information may be processed or stored in the United States and in other countries where Shopify, Render, Resend, Google, Meta, or other service providers maintain operations.

Privacy and data-protection laws in those locations may differ from the laws where you live.

Where required, international transfers may be supported by safeguards such as:

• Adequacy decisions
• Participation in an approved data privacy framework
• Standard Contractual Clauses
• Contractual data-protection requirements
• Other legally recognized transfer mechanisms

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

Rum Reef does not use personal information to make decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

Our apps may automatically perform ordinary technical functions, such as creating files, processing data, detecting errors, calculating usage, or sending operational notifications. These functions are not used to make legal or similarly significant decisions about individuals.

Rum Reef does not use artificial intelligence to make decisions about an individual’s access, eligibility, pricing, rights, or legal status.

Children and Minors

Our website, apps, digital products, and services are intended for people who are at least 18 years old or the age of legal majority where they live, whichever is higher.

Our services are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
